space Occupied when client created

Post by raghucharan v »

sir,
i have noticed after a client creation, that arround 2 GB of space is accopied in the disk, that is in archives(oraarch) 2 gb of space is occupied. so,
my question is, i am creating a new client which has nothing in it, that is i am copying the master client(000) data tables, that is 000 client to 369 client, by means of local client copy.

note: 000 client consists of no application data and custumizing data in it. It is only a standard client.

so, what is the need of maintaining dump of archives of client copy which has nothing in it, in oraarch? so can we delete that dump before taking backup of archives ?

When performing a client copy you can deactivate the archive logs (or delete them without a backup) only if no other activity is being performed in the system like end users working on it or consultants doing some configuration. On the other hand a client copy is recommended to be done when no one is on the system so what I would do is:
1. Log off and lock all users
2. Deactivate archive log mode
3. Perform client copy
4. Activate archive logs
5. Unlock users and backup database

Advantage of disabling archive logs: the client copy will run faster.
