whats the difference between R3trans and Tp in SAP?

R/3trans is the r/3 system transport program which can be used for transporting data between different sap systems ,even when they dont belong to the same group .R3trans normally is not used directly but called from the tp control program or by the R/3 upgrade.Tp is the basic tool for the transporting the request.

TP is used to control the objects moving from one system(source system) to another system( taget system), but the actual 'mover' is R3trans. TP calls R3trans to finished the objects moving.

This tool r3trans does the complete transport work for tp. TP controls the transports and generates the r3trans control files, but does no database-connect itself. All the "real work" is done from r3trans.
