types of backup?

hi,
i want to know, in how many ways backup can be performed? and what are they? how?
like, we can take backup by using brtools, brbackup(full backup), brarchive(archivebackup)
and also through R/3 also we can schedule by tcode db13( database calender)?
what is the importance of rman can any one explain?
