If a background job runs more than the time it should be completed normally then what actions will u take?

You should check whether the Background Work Process is free or not..
If all the workprocesses are busy, then you should wait until any one of the WP gets free.

kindly provide the details if you're unable to workout the issue, even after checking the trace file

Try going to Transaction SM37 ( Background Jobs Over View ) . select the needful and Active and running .

Check whether it is still running or has cancelled or what the status is.

If cancelled you can find some dump for the same time and user in Transaction ST22 and ST02.

Check and let me know if any error u facing .
