SYSTEM MONITORING THROUGH SOLMAN

Post by younus_ahmed »

System Monitoring
Use
The system monitoring monitors the systems in your solution landscape, in real time.
Integration
The system monitoring is based on the Monitoring Architecture concept.
Prerequisites
You have created a solution landscape.
You have set-up the RFC connections between the SAP Solution Manager and the satellite systems:
You have set the Assign RFC Dest. for System Monitoring flag in the system landscape (transaction SMSY) to Generate the RFC Connection.

Proceed as follows:
...
Choose the SAP Solution Manager system of your landscape components.
Select a row.
Generate your RFC connection in the Clients tab.
Set the Assign RFC Dest. for System Monitoring flag.
1. You have entered all required data about Load Balancing in the Solution Manager System Landscape (transaction: SMSY).

Proceed as follows:
...
Choose the SAP Solution Manager system of your landscape components.
Generate your RFC connection in the Clients tab.
Specify the RFC Destination Attributes.
You have authorization. For further information, see the SAP Solution Manager Security Guide.
Procedures
...
Set-up system monitoring.
Set-up user alerts.
Display the alerts in the alert graphic.
Reset alerts.

Set-Up System Monitoring
Use
You want to specify which CCMS alerts are displayed in the SAP Solution Manager alert graphic.

Procedures
1. Start the transaction SOLUTION_MANAGER.
2. Choose Solution Monitoring ® System Monitoring, in the Operations Set-Up area.
You go to an overview screen, from which you can go to the system monitoring set-up in change mode, and call Best Practice documents.
3. Choose Set-Up System Monitoring.
You go to Change Mode: Solution Monitoring.
4. Perform the following checks in change mode:
1. a. Select Active Systems
2. b. Check CCMS Connectivity
3. c. Copy Default Settings
4. d. Perform System-Specific and System Component-Specific Checks
5. e. Insert Additional Hardware Components (optional)
6. f. Insert Additional Software Components (optional)

Check RFC Connection for System Monitoring
Use
You check the availability of the selected systems. If you have not defined an RFC connection between the systems before setting-up the system monitoring, this check has the status red.
Procedure
Critical status (red)
...
1. Call the Solution Manager System Landscape (transaction SMSY).
2. Generate your RFC connection in the Clients tab.
3. Set the Assign RFC Dest. for System Monitoring flag.
4. Save your entries.
The system classifies the check as uncritical in the session.
Uncritical status (green)
...
1. Select the Set-Up RFC Connections for Monitoring check in the SAP Solution Manager system monitoring set-up session.
2. Check the table entries.
3. To save the check, choose the pushbutton Save + next w/o Check.
You go to the next unprocessed check.

Copy Customizing
Use
You copy the alert customizing from one system or system component to another.
Procedure
...
1. Select the Copy Customizing check.
2. Choose the component whose alert settings you want to copy, in the Context column.
3. Choose the system/system component that you want to copy, as Source.
4. Choose the system/system component into which you want to copy, as Destination.
5. Choose Expand Systems to copy systems with components. The system fills the relevant fields automatically.

You can only copy customizing when the Source und Destination system/system components have the same database type.
6. To copy threshold values, set the flag in the Thresholds column.
7. To set the threshold values for each alert in the target system, set the flag in the TID-Specific column.

In the local CCMS in satellite systems, alerts are collected into attribute groups, e.g. alerts with the same threshold values. If you change, for example the threshold value of an alert in an attribute group, the system changes the threshold values of all alerts in the group. If you only want to change the threshold value of one alert in this attribute group, set the TID-Specific flag.
8. Choose Copy.

If inconsistencies occur, the system sends an error message. You can resolve the errors manually, or choose Correct Inconsistencies for an automatic correction.
9. To save your entries, choose the pushbutton Save + next w/o Check.
You go to the next unprocessed check.

Set-Up System-Specific Checks
Use
You set-up alerts for your systems.
Procedure
1. To set-up alerts for a system, select the SAP System check for it.
The SAP System check is structured according to the configuration of your solution landscape.

2. Go to the CCMS Context tab to make the possible entries help for CCMS alerts available to the SAP Solution Manager for user alerts.
3. Choose a CCMS context from the possible entries help.
4. You can activate or deactivate alerts in the subchecks.
7. a. Select a check.
8. b. Set or reset the Active? flag for all alerts which you want to put in or remove from the alert graphic, respectively.

You can load the default configuration for all alerts which match the local CCMS values, which is predefined by SAP. Choose Load Defaults for R/3 System in the SAP System check.

The symbol in front of each check indicates the reachability of the alerts in the CCMS monitoring tree. The meaning of the symbols is explained in the Legend.

Reachability of the alerts
Symbol Explanation

Alert is reachable: The system has found the alert name in the monitoring tree element (MTE) of the local CCMS.

Alert was reachable but is no longer: The system had previously found the alert name in the MTE of the local CCMS, but finds it now no longer.

Alert is not reachable: The system has not found the alert name in the MTE of the local CCMS.

Alert is not reachable: The system has not found the alert name in the MTE of the local CCMS. The alert is inactive.

9. c. To see or change the attributes of the active alert, choose Properties.
You go to the transaction Monitoring: Properties and Methods (RZ20) of the system. You can switch between the attributes of the active alerts with Next Selection Object and Previous Selection Object.
10. d. Set the flag in the TID-Specific column, if you only want to set the settings for a specified alert, and not for the CCMS customizing group assigned to the alert.

If you have flagged the alert as TID-Specific, the system ignores your specific alert settings if it copies customizing to other systems later.
11. e. To save your entries, choose the pushbutton Save + next w/o Check.
You go to the next unprocessed check.
